Kitchen & Dining

Graters, slicers, air fryer accessories, cocktail kit and glassware — the kind of kitchen tools that earn their drawer space rather than filling it.

Most kitchen gadgets fail for one of two reasons: they only do one thing, or they are a nuisance to clean. The ones worth keeping are quick to rinse and take up less room than the job they replace. A multi-blade grater does the work of four box graters in a drawer; a roller sharpener brings a blunt knife back in about a minute and needs no skill.

Two practical notes. Non-stick pans should not go in the dishwasher whatever the box says — detergent is abrasive and it is what kills the coating, so a rinse and a soft cloth will roughly double the pan’s life. And air fryer liners need to leave the holes clear: a sheet that covers the whole basket blocks the airflow the machine works by, and the food steams instead of crisping.

Silicone moulds take the freezer and the oven both, though it is worth checking the stated temperature limit before you bake in one.
