Watches, wallets, belts, hats, gloves and the few clothes worth keeping — a small range chosen so that each thing in it is the one you would actually reach for.

Most of what sits here is bought once and then forgotten about, which is exactly the test. A leather belt is sized to your waist over the trousers you wear it with, not to your jeans label. A quartz watch keeps better time than a mechanical one and asks nothing of you but a battery every few years. UV400 is the number that matters on sunglasses, and a dark lens without it is worse than no sunglasses at all, because the pupil opens wider and lets more ultraviolet in.
