Hats & Accessories

Caps, beanies, gloves, scarves, ties and sunglasses — the small things that finish an outfit or keep the weather off.

On sunglasses, the number that matters is UV400, and it is not the same as a dark lens. UV400 blocks effectively all UVA and UVB; a dark tint without it makes the pupil open wider and lets more UV in, so cheap unrated sunglasses are worse than no sunglasses at all. Polarised lenses do a different job again — they cut glare bouncing off a wet road or a windscreen, which is why they suit driving.

Gloves for riding want trying on with your hands in the shape they will actually be in. A glove that feels fine with fingers flat can numb a hand wrapped round a throttle for an hour, so check the fit bent, not just flat.

A neck warmer beats a scarf anywhere there is wind or machinery — nothing to work loose, nothing to catch.
