Loafers and slip-ons.

Shoe sizes here are given in EU rather than UK, and EU sizing is built directly on foot length — which makes measuring far more reliable than converting, because the UK equivalent of a given EU size varies between makers by up to half a size.

To measure your foot: stand on a sheet of paper with your weight on it, mark the back of the heel and the end of the longest toe, and measure between the marks in centimetres. As a guide, 25cm is about EU 40, 26cm about EU 41, 27cm about EU 42–43, 28cm about EU 44 and 29cm about EU 45. Measure both feet and go by the longer one — almost nobody is symmetrical — and do it at the end of the day, because feet swell and a shoe fitted first thing is the one that pinches by evening.

Driving loafers with a rubber-nub sole are made for a pedal rather than a pavement and wear through faster if you walk miles in them. A stitched leather sole lasts longer and takes a week or two to soften.
